(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 27, 2019 ) On May 16 the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (The Wallis) hosted An Evening of Wicked Fun honoring Stephen Schwartz. The celebration and fundraising event, presented by the legendary House of Harry Winston, highlighted the work of the award-winning composer and lyricist of classic musicals.
Schwartz,composer of Wicked, Godspell and Pippin, has also contributed lyrics to songs in the films Enchanted, Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt.
In her remarks onstage, Wallis Annenberg noted that by
the age of 28, the six-time Tony nominee had three shows running simultaneously on Broadway and has now become one of only two composers who has had three shows run on Broadway longer than 1,500 performances.
Backed by the Los Angeles Childrens Chorus, Idina Menzel, Liz Callaway, Isaiah Johnson, Jordan Fisher, Andrea Martin, and Angel Blue sang their favorites of the composers songs.
Proceeds from the night will support the artistic, education, and outreach programs of The Wallis, which serve more than 70,000 audience members annually, including thousands of underserved students from throughout the greater Los Angeles area with limited access to the arts.
In a poignant moment, Honorary Co-Chair Wallis Annenberg presented Schwartz with a $100,000 donation to the ASCAP Foundation where he serves as the Artistic Director.
