The Global Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) Market is projected to witness a CAGR of 3.88%, by revenue, till 2022, with growing demand from the automotive sector – Mordor Intelligence Study

The Global Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) Market was worth USD 2,279.27 million, by revenue, and 815.00 kilotons, by volume, in 2016, and it is expected to register a CAGR of 3.88% and 3.59% respectively, during the forecast period.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 30, 2017 ) Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is a crystalline, high molecular-weight polymer that is used in electricals, electronics, automobiles, and other applications. PBT exhibits high heat, chemical and solvent resistance, with high mechanical strength. PBT is highly tensile, economically moldable, and treatable with flame retardants which makes it a noncombustible polymer. PBT has a slightly lower strength, rigidity, glass transition temperature, and has better impact resistance, as compared to polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

PBT is consumed in much larger volumes than PET, due to its easier processability, and shorter processing times. Asia-Pacific had the largest share of the global PBT market in 2016, and is expected to maintain its dominance up to 2022. During 2008-2009, the PBT market experienced crisis, owing to the prevalent global economic crisis. However, since 2012 (post-crisis), the market has regained its stature, and is steadily growing. The market is majorly driven by the increasing demand of PBT for automotive and electrical applications. The use of PBT in automotive applications has increased, as a result of greater use of electrical/electronic devices, such as, housings for electric motors in window and seating adjusters, passenger airbags, and safety belt tensioners. However, the growing competition from other engineering plastics, such as, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), ABS, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and bio-based polymers, hinders the market growth.

The Global Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) Market was worth USD 2,279.27 million, by revenue, and 815.00 kilotons, by volume, in 2016, and it is expected to register a CAGR of 3.88% and 3.59% respectively, during the forecast period.

The PBT market has been segmented, based on the end user industries, into automotive, extrusion, electrical and electronics, among others. The automotive sector holds the highest market share among all other sectors and, Asia-Pacific is the leading market in this sector. Growing consumer goods sales, rising manufacturing industry, along with government initiatives targeting the domestic manufacturing sector, are driving the growth of the market in this region. DuPont Co.’s performance materials unit, has installed a 3D suction blow-molding machine at its Shanghai research and development center, and is anticipating a surge in demand for turbo-charged engines, in the Chinese automotive industry. The electrical and electronics sector comes second to automobiles, in terms of market share.
